the tuxedo stripe

IMG_8491

I like this military/tuxedo stripe, a simple detail that draws the eye. Also like the look of some black leggings I’ve seen where the stripe is in a contrasting fabric rather than color, invariably something leather-ish or shiny.

Leggings from Express (thrifted), J Crew tee, vintage Levi’s belt, Zara scarf, Zara pumps (thrifted), python cuff (eBay), Coal wide-brimmed felted wool fedora. The earrings were a gift from my friend Farrin, who happens to have an exhibit of her art up in Cambridge throughout autumn. My piece is in the show.

And oh yes. This isn’t my hair.

Looks pretty plausible, I think. Kind of weird if you know what my hair usually looks like, but not unnatural if I darken my eyebrows. Or, I don’t know. What do you think? I like it. Especially with the hat. It’s incredible how much it changes my appearance, at least to me. It’s nice, once in a while, to have a respite from looking like oneself.

I was looking for a wig for Halloween and things got out of hand. Wait ’til you see the others.

p.s. Happy Halloween! I’ll show you my costume soon…

denim + denim

Nothing goes with denim quite like…

…more denim.

I also like denim and pink together. This pearl rope is the last of the pieces I borrowed from Lilia’s Treasures Etsy shop (you can see the other pieces here and here), pink drops with beautiful luster.

[More thoughts on pearls here. I am an enthusiast.]

Tying a knot like this is my favorite way to wear a rope right now.

IMG_8338Are we done yet?

Here’s a better look at the Breil Milano watch I’m wearing a lot at the moment. I’m wearing it in a few other places but it’s been difficult to see. It is massive, which was what I was going for – that appeal of borrowing masculine elements. It’s almost comically oversized, and my wrist isn’t especially small. I like…basically everything about it.

IMG_8353Denim shirt from cloth & stone (via Marshall’s), Rich & Skinny (I know: terrible brand name. But they were $5, and they’re fitted but still kind of slouchy, with really big back pockets, like I like…) jeans (thrifted), python buckle belt* (eBay), Breil Milano watch (eBay), Eric Michael Laguna boots, necklace from Lilia’s Treasures. On the lips: Lancôme Rouge in Love lipstick in Fiery Attitude.

*pythonnnn

Really liking the look of a bold lip and an essentially bare face (more importantly, bare eyes). Here I’ve just haphazardly bashed some bronzer on and skipped blush altogether, which look I also like.
